Mood Chasers Every One of Us

You don't have to have a mood disorder like bipolar disorder or clinical depression to understand that what we do most of our lives is to chase moods. You want to take a vacation? It's because yout don't like your mood now, so your're chasing a mood somewhere over on greener grass. You want a better car? That's because you want a certain mood to go with the experience of driving. You don't want to go to work? Blame it on the mood work instills in you. Chasing moods is what people do, it's what drives civilizations and empires and ad agencies.

If we don't get enough sunlight, many of us get Seasonal Affective Disorder. Lighting can help this. But we're still in a certain mood, a funk during the winter that makes us want to get out.

Mood disorders, and the people who ache in them, can help us understand how moods work. Acloholics desire a certain kind of mood. Drug addicts seek a certain mood. We, every one of us, seek moods that we thing will make life the best.

What mood are you in?
